Our Programmes
Health and Nutrition is Wealth
Each year, several people, particularly women and children, die from preventable causes in Nigeria, affected by violent conflict and natural disasters. Most of these deaths are the result of disruptions related to crisis, poor sanitation, shortages of food and medicine, and inadequate prevention. The internally displaced persons in Maiduguri Borno state, and some parts of Nigeria are severely affected by hunger, disease and lack.
Everyone deserves the chance to live a healthy life. With the help of our partners, we have developed, adapted, and scale up solutions to accelerate progress toward health equity. At CBI we are constantly working that women, girls and youth have access to standard health care facilities and good basic diet.
Poor health and nutrition can undermine people’s potential to improve their lives, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Care Best Initiative helps those who are experiencing or recovering from conflict and disaster reduce their risk of falling ill and receive treatment when they do get sick by the help of the organization staff and sometimes via referrals.
Part of our work is the establishment of OTP centers in all the strategic locations in Maiduguri where cases of death among malnourished children is recorded. With the help of partners, we are able to provide RUTF to those who are screen and are on this category. Result from this exercise has been profound with children recovering from this malady with great speed. Below are ways we achieve these goals below:
- Education
- Advocacy
- Access affordable high-quality food
- Encourage immunization
- Provision of healthy hygiene practices
- Empowering community health workers
- Provision of RUTF at various OTP centres
- Providing them with access to safe water and improved sanitation
